Natural Hair Versatility

The DK crew
If anyone has told you that natural hair is limiting and you can't rock you hair curly AND straight, you let em know that I said that is a serious FALSEHOOD! Now I will say that some folks go to the wrong place or try to press their natural hair themselves and I would highly recommend going to a professional "Natural Hair" stylist to achieve this style. There are folks who have had "not too pleasant experiences" and I cannot speak on that because I loved my hair and I looked fabulous. Please note this is not the first time I have had my hair straightened and I have color as well.

If you are in the Atlanta area, please make a trip and visit my hair stylist, Deshonica Kerrie (she is a Design Essentials educator) and she caters to natural AND relaxed hair! She just makes sure your hair is HEALTHY and FABULOUS at the same damn time! I truly believe that's what we all want at the end of the day, right?

Deshonica Kerrie Salon is located at 6600 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, GA

Natural Hair Freedom attends the Southern Natural Hair Affair

Last month was so busy, that I haven't had a chance to share with you this awesome and educational event that I attended in the heart of Mississippi.

The Southern Natural Hair Affair celebrates every year, naturals coming together for education and support of their hair journey. This year I was honored to be one of the special guests of the event. I was in great company along with Jessica Simien, Debbie Jackson, Precious Alridge, and the fabulous hostess Kim Williams of Metro Jackson Naturals.

There were some fabulous vendors and also a whole room full of positive and beautiful naturalistas from the heart of Mississippi and beyond!

5th Annual Naturally Pretty Event ~ Curl Boss

If you were not able to make it to the 5th Annual Naturally Pretty event in Atlanta, hosted by Natural Chica & Mimi J, you missed a fabulous natural hair event with plenty of Curl Bosses in the room.

The event was held at the Defoor Center in the heart of Atlanta with several Curl Boss special guests, including Janell of Camille Rose Naturals, Pamela Booker of Koils by Nature, and the creators of Myavana Hair, Eden Body Works, and Tropic Isle Living. The panel was amazing and also empowering hearing the stories of how these women were able to make their businesses thrive from pursuing their passions.

This event is a must attend every year and I wouldn't have missed it as Mimi J and Natural Chica celebrated the 5th year in the making! What an accomplishment!! We have to support one another as black owned business creating a space for brands, consumers, and others to bring awareness of great products & services for the natural hair community. That is what it is all about!

When you join Natural Hair Freedom on meetup.com you will find out about these fabulous events & opportunities as well as save money on tickets and freebies!

What was one of your favorite natural hair events you attended this year? Tell us about it!

Black Biz Scope Challenge!

Heyyyyyyy!!! I have been debating if I was going to wait until the Black Biz Scope 14 day Challenge was over before posting my videos, but I think I'm going to share the scopes I've done thus far and I can always give you all an update once we have finished the challenge. We are halfway there!

I'm so ahead of myself right now. First of all, lemme tell you about the Black Biz Scope Initiative in case this is your first time hearing about this awesome initiative.

Black Biz Scope is an initiative created by Pamela Booker (Koils By Nature), Adeea Rogers (Trendy Socialite) and Christine St.Vil (Moms N Charge) to support and build community for black owned businesses. We will give black businesses the opportunity to share their business via live broadcasts on Periscope from 10-11 AM EST and 6-8 PM EST on Fridays.

I participated in the Black Biz Scope back in October (video here) and it was a great experience. I am not the best at periscope but with a few hiccups, I was able to make it work and share about Natural Hair Freedom meetup group as well as talk about my blog, sharing my thrifting adventure as a curvy fashionista.

So now we are participating in the Black Biz Scope Challenge and here are the daily topics discussed on various black owned business Periscope accounts!

Now that you see the topics being discussed, make sure you check out the hashtag #blackbizscopechallenge and catch some of those scopes!

Here are my scopes thus far...
