Tweet Heard Around The World ~ #HasJustineLandedYet

It was Friday evening, and I had just posted my Happy Friday picture, and prepping for a weekend of catching up on busy work. My weather app forecasted rain this weekend, AND the weekend before Christmas is a scary time to be on the streets of metro Atlanta.

This is my "Its time to head home on a Friday" look!

Since starting the Winter Deep Conditioner Challenge, I have been on my Twitter account so much more! I'm really getting the hang of tweeting lol :-) On Friday night, a natural hair blogger that I follow mentioned the hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet. I was curious because there were soooo many retweets and I click on the tweet pic and this is what my eyes saw!!

Oh yes she did.....Justine Sacco really just showed how callous of a person she can really be. After this tweet, she boarded a 13 hour flight to South Africa. We all have to take a lesson here, that social media is great to engage different people from all over the world, BUT every thought does not need to be posted on social media. The kicker for Ms. Sacco is that she is the PR Executive for a media company, IAC, which owns websites like, Match.com, Ask.com, and even BlackPeopleMeet.com.

The overwhelming response on social media was incredible. The Hashtahg #HasJustineLandedYet  was still trending even 36 hours after the initial tweet was posted. All of social media was waiting for her plane to land in South Africa and see the reaction she received once she realized how much ROAR her comment made!

The company did their best to distance themselves from the situation as soon as they got wind of the fury the comment caused all over social media. Here's the apology IAC issued Friday. At the time of the statement, Ms. Sacco was still on her flight and completely unaware of the chaos her tweet heard around the world had cause.

Her employer at the time, IAC, called her tweet, “an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC. Unfortunately, the employee in question is unreachable on an international flight, but this is a very serious matter and we are taking appropriate action.”
By Saturday afternoon, Ms. Sacco was no longer an employee at IAC.

At last, Ms. Sacco issued an apology on Sunday, the day after she was fired. Ms. Sacco apologized on Sunday in a statement provided to ABC:
"Words cannot express how sorry I am, and how necessary it is for me to apologize to the people of South Africa, who I have offended due to a needless and careless tweet. There is an AIDS crisis taking place in this country, that we read about in America, but do not live with or face on a continuous basis. Unfortunately, it is terribly easy to be cavalier about an epidemic that one has never witnessed firsthand."
Should we forgive Ms. Sacco for her horrible joke?
Would you be able to work with someone who made racist comments?
